While reading a play the reader should picture the actions going on in the background, and the setting and the features of the character. Whereas a novel or a short story offers leeway for descriptions and implies physical environments and the characters’ appearances partially, playwrights resort to dialogue majorly. In this case the author generally limits and defines only by a few stage directions or the characters’ descriptions, so the reader is free to use his/her creative imagination in order to visualize what is happening. People must imagine not only the time period, location, and other props/stage props, but also must be able to depict the entire envisment in their minds’ eye.
