Which of the following is NOT one of the three major components of a typical eukaryotic cell?
1: plasma membrane
2: cytoplasm
3: ribosome
4: nucleus
Answer: 3: ribosome
Ribosome is, however, one of the three main components that typically comprise an eukaryotic cell. The three major components are:
Plasma membrane: The outer membrane serves as the dividing line between the cell and its surroundings, and is responsible for regulating the passage of different substances in and out of the cell.
Cytoplasm: It is cytoplasm that is gelatinous in nature and inside which a lot of cellular processes occur; some other structures are present there.
Nucleus: DNA -the genetic substance- is contained in a membrane-bound structure that controls the cell functions.
The ribosomes, are indeed, to be found in every eukaryotic cell but they are not part of the cell’s largest structures. Located right in the cytoplasm are the ribosomes that are organelles engaged in protein-synthesis. The free-floating and the ones attached to the endoplasmic reticulum are two of the types of ribosomes.
