Alzheimer’s disease is characterized by the presence of two abnormal structures in the brain: amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles, which are associated with the memory issues. Amyloid plaques are aggregation of beta-amyloid protein, which interfere with neuron functions by forming a plaque that prevents effective communication between them. The neurofibrillary tangle called for bundles of fibers composed of a protein called tau, which is designed to stabilize the internal structure of neurons. In the disease of Alzheimer’s, the tau protein turns into twisted abnormal teardrops that clutting the neurons from the inside. These plaques and tangles were considered responsible and were discovered in the resins of the brain of deceased patients with Alzheimer through autopsy.
