Contemporary newspapers became interested in Cuba and the Spanish-American war especially more so in the late-nineteenth century, and their focal interest was to Ellen increase their circulation and readership. This process, referred to as \u2018yellow journalism\u2019, provoked such stories or created new ones intending to make the stories more spectacular.<\/p>\n

Newspaper tycoons such as William Randolph Hearst and Joseph Pulitzer were in rivalry with one another for readership and thus reporting on the rebellion of Cuba against Spanish rule as well as the ensuing war was one of the most efficient means to attract the readers\u2019 attention.
