China was easily defeated by the British in the first opium war because China\u2019s navy was not able to match the advanced weaponry of the British. The First Opium war had started in 1839 and the highly superior, advanced and sophisticated gunnery and naval power. The war had started when Chinese government had taken a step related to enforcing the prohibition of opium that also included the destruction of stocks that are owned by the British merchants. The blockade by Chinese navy was also entirely destroyed by British navy. After defeating the Chinese blockade, the British had launched offensive and decisive defeats that were faced by Chinese Empire. The warfare of China was hugely weak in comparison to the advanced weapons that were being used by the military of Great Britain. After the win China was made to sign the \u201cTreaty of Nanjing\u201d by the British and this depicted the willingness of China to continue the entry of opium within the country. The Opium war was considered to be an emblem of the era within which the Western power have aimed at gaining access towards the Chinese products and the markets. The Chinese were defeated by the British in series of the naval conflicts and these played an important role in providing the British a better and demanding position in comparison to the Chinese forces.
