First-degree equations or straight-line equations have a uniform rate of change and they are outlined as y = mx + b; m and b being constants. They include only the variables raised to the first power. While quadratic equations have the variable squared and take the form ax\u00b2 + bx + c = 0, where a, b, c are constants and a \u2260 0.
