The 2000 U. S presidential election between George W. Bush and Al Gore was one of the almost too closely fought battles in the history of American politics especially in the state of Florida where the winning team would emerge from. Following the automated tallying, the Democrats under Gore demanded hand counting in several counties in Florida. The Florida Supreme Court saw it fit to extend the time for these recounts, a situation that has helped Gore. Following this, the Bush campaign took the matter to the U.S. Supreme Court asserting that the Florida Supreme Court had encroached on its mandate and that the recounting contravened the Equal Protection Clause of the Constitution. They energized the fight for Bush v. Gore and spearheaded much of the processes that occurred before and during the event. By a margin of 5:4, the U. S. Supreme Court halted the recount process thus awarding the U.S. presidency to Bush. Bush\u2019s campaign plan was to stop any more recounting that could have altered the initial ledgers that proved Bush was a hair ahead. In this connection, they went to the U. S. Supreme Court to stop the legal processes and secure Bush\u2019s triumph.
