Project management is considered an excellent training ground for future senior executives. Projects are unique because they produce a mix of technical challenges and behavioural challenges. Due to many technical challenges involved in a project senior executives need to develop various project management skills such as selection of the appropriate project, resource management, preparation of the appropriate budget and overall planning, scheduling and tracking aspects of projects. To implement these technical skills senior executives must face behavioural challenges as well. Behavioural challenges are also known as people challenges and these play a strong role in project management. Projects are temporary processes which may or may not have permanent effects. Therefore, there is a limited timeframe within which the executives have to bring together resources and different people from different departments and provide them extensive training to create effective team and they also have to manage the team effectively (Troanca, 2011). This includes management of conflicts between team members and leadership skills. Negotiation forms an integral part of project management. Political approaches are necessary to balance all sides of the project. These skills are essential for the senior executives to bring project success. The executives must strive to become experts in all kinds of challenges for overall project success because if they highlight few aspects and ignore the rest, they would only achieve partial success. Project management are amazing training grounds for the future executives also because it is the stepping or the foundation test of the inherent or acquired ability of a project manager to overcome challenges in both technical and behavioural aspects and it brings out the best business leaders. This kind of assessment is necessary for a company’s survival and prosperity because projects along with the executives aid to a company’s growth (Pinto, 2016).
