how would you Resolve employee dissatisfaction?
Organizational structure has a significant impact on the performance and productivity of employees. If there is a complex organizational structure such as a hierarchical or matrix organizational structure, it may lead to employee dissatisfaction (Keum & See, 2017). Therefore, it is necessary to employ some techniques if the hierarchical organizational structure is the leading cause of dissatisfaction of employees in order to keep them satisfied and happy. The following techniques could be applied in order to deal with the dissatisfaction of employees.
The hierarchy organizational structure is generally static and complex. It makes the process and procedure so complex that can increase the level of dissatisfaction of employees. Hence, it is necessary to be flexible enough so that when necessary the management can change its approach to accomplish a given task. A sense of flexibility should be created in the mind of employees regarding the process and procedure of completing a task or approaching an authority within the organization. It will help in creating confidence among employees and hence their motivation and morale will be high. Motivation and morale of employees are associated with the level of satisfaction (Gelard & Rezaei, 2016). For example, a highly motivated employee generally tends to be satisfied as well and vice-versa.
The management should allow employees to share their own roles. It can be done through open and effective communication within the organization. Thus, effective and open communication should be practiced within the organization in order to deal with the dissatisfaction of employees. Open communication helps in sharing emotions and feelings, clearly defining roles and responsibilities, providing required information to the right person, and many more. It can reduce the impact of hierarchical organizational structure and employees will not feel bound by their position within the organization. They can approach the concerned authority when required and resolve their problems. It may help in creating a sense of belongingness among the employees and their level of dissatisfaction will reduce.
Hierarchy organizational structure also leads to poor management and poor management is one of the significant reasons for employee dissatisfaction. So, the management of the organization needs to focus on effective management. The attitude and behavior of top management towards line management and employees also determine the level of satisfaction of employees (Hammouri & Abu-Shanab, 2017). Hence, the management needs to ensure that there are effective management practices within the organization and the attitude and behavior of the top management towards lower-level management and employees are positive and encouraging. Apart from this, the management needs to also think about the work-life balance of employees, appreciation, and recognition of employee career growth and relationship with co-workers as well as managers.
All the above-mentioned factors are associated with the hierarchical organizational structure and they significantly contribute to making employees dissatisfied. Thus, the management of the organization must focus on these factors and ensure that there are a healthy organizational culture and working environment within the organization. It will make employees satisfied even in the hierarchical organizational structure.
