Week 4 Discussion

            In this week I learnt about SQL server integration services (SSIS). The SSIS is used for performing a wide range of data migration task. Learning about how SSIS works was the most powerful learning moment in the week. In the contemporary organizations, data needs to be migrated on a regular basis from one platform to other. However the data migration from one platform to another is a key concern to the organization, due to the risk of data loss. The knowledge on SSIS would enable me to perform the regular Database Management activities in organizations more efficiently. In the week I learnt that emergence of SSIS replaced the Data Transmission Services. Understanding the importance of staying updated about the gradual improvement in technology is the most important thing I learnt first personally in this week. I can teach the problem solving process to someone else easily with the help of the content obtained from this week. To teach someone the concept of SSIS, I will firstly introduce what is SSIS. Then I will add the concepts such as flows, connection manager, precedence and expression constraints and how SSIS is used in real life. The theoretical understanding on a SSIS helps me to develop knowledge on the data migration activities. I will learn about the topic from various journals and books in the future.

Week 5 Discussion

            Learning about parallelism was the most important learning moment in this week. The contemporary database is required dealing with large number of queries from multiple sources. The concept of parallelism helped me to understand how different queries can be processed independently and retrieve the accurate outcome. Modern days a database manager needs to manage various queries at the same time. The knowledge on parallelism along with the file task and the web service task will help me to manage the queries efficiently. The concept of parallelism, file task and web task contributed to my personal development as a database manager. I am able to teach the problem solving process to someone else easily in a stepwise manner. While teaching someone else, I will introduce the theoretical concept initially. Then, I will provide them with a hands-on experience. In the future, I I want to improve my knowledge on managing queries using the learning from this week. I will use the knowledge at my workplace and will develop further knowledge from the journals and books.
