Compare and Contrast the concept of cloud computing technologies to grid computing.
The future computer will be a set of very powerful components with specialized skills able to process large volumes of data in a cooperative and highly parallel fashion. With rapid developments in computer architecture such as the CUDA and Echelon parallel computing is the future. Such GPUs have strong memory bandwidth and computing capabilities which has given rise to high-performing architectures. However, in spite of the opportunities, there are certain challenges that face this type of future computers. First challenge is the use of power and energy. High level of energy efficiency is necessary to run these processors which is a challenge because innovation is still pending in this sector. Second challenge of memory bandwidth which can limit the optimum performance of the system. The rate of memory bandwidth expansion has reduced in modern computing (Keckler, Dally, Khailany, Garland, & Glasco, 2011). The third challenge is the programmability. The sequence-based programming system is in use which provides a flat memory view but the concurrent nature of the new system would have both technological and research related difficulties. Distant memory access requires time and money to fully utilize memory hierarchies. The developed code should be sensitive to the processor performance and the transfer of data should be controlled. But the challenge is that all systems do not allow the application of knowledge in data access to control its movement within the hierarchy.
