An intracompany conflict example is the Air Canada Pilot Conflict resulting in repeated strikes. One of the driving forces behind the conflict was the merger between Air Canada and Canadian Airlines. The disputes began in 2005 when the company laid off 180 maintenance workers resulting in 4-hour long dispute by the ground crew in Toronto and the company had to cancel 19 flights. Another lay-off of 2000 employees was announced in 2011 owing to increased fuel prices. This situation of various strikes continued for another year and the strike in October had to be cancelled as the Canada Industrial Relations Board ruled that employees must continue work until the disputes are reviewed. Later in 2012 the company’s maintenance partner Aveos Fleet Performance shut down leading to outrageous reactions from the employees (CBC News, 2012). Over the years the company faced many such conflicts and the federal government had to intervene leading to unfavourable decisions and increased employee outrage. The arbitrations have been temporary and no permanent solutions have been found to the concerns. When compared to the conflict between Apple and Samsung, it can be said that intracompany conflicts are much more complex and more difficult to manage as compared to the intercompany conflicts.
