English Composition Video Games and Violence

Question:-

write a english paper on video games and violence.

Answer:-

The four readings of this week address different questions on violence and video games. Cogburn and Silcox discuss how violent games result in individuals resorting to violent  (Cogburn & Silcox, 2009, p. 54). The writers track back the history of violent games to their inception and uses the examples of philosophical heritage which supports the fact that exhibition of violence even in art forms or as entertainment encourage the audience to violence and therefore the government should restrict the consumption of such art. Similar interpretations are seen in the depiction of violence as entertainment by Collins who portrays that intoxication leads to massive change in human behavior and even violence (Collins, 2008, p. 264).

Drawing on his observations it can be said that gamers’ addiction to violent games is akin to intoxication caused by alcohol which blinds the judgement because both point out that addiction result in actions which are otherwise uncommon to an individual’s character. Supporting these observations are the meta-analysis conducted by Prescott, Sargent and Hull which studied physically aggressive behaviors in violent game players of different ethnicities which point out that culture plays an important role in the perception of violence (Prescott, Sargent, & Hull, 2018, p. 6). The general conclusion derived from all the studies is that real-life violence can have significant impact resulting from violent video games. The paper by Vorobej on Pacifism can be connected with this conclusion because it can help in understanding a form of extremism that all violent video games promote violence (Vorobej, 2014, pp. 5-29).
