Castells argued that the chronological events that are incorporated in the production of new technology, ultimately determine the content and utilised of the technology all through its existence. For support his argument he recounted the events that led to the introduction of the internet. According to Castells, the most important event which propelled the internet into existence was the unlikely intersection of big science, libertarian culture and military research. He explained that the internet was conceptualised and developed in a mission oriented research environment. This environment was provided by public funds and it motivated freedom of innovation and thinking (Khadka, 2020)
