A nonequivalent control group posttest only design is a quasi experiment research design in which a dependent variable is measured following a treatment in one group and also in a nonequivalent control group that does not receive the treatment. For example students enrolled in another research methods course are provided the traditional method. The researcher may not manipulate who enrolled for each class, so it is possible that selection difference between groups can explain the outcomes.

A quasi experimental research design is the utilization of procedures and methods for making observations in a study that is structured similar to an experiment but the experiences and conditions of participants lack some control because the study lacks random assignment, includes a pre-existing factor (Davis & et.al., 2019).

Longitudinal studies differ from one off or cross sectional studies, the main difference is that cross sectional studies interview a fresh sample of individuals each time they are carried out, whereas longitudinal studies follow the same sample of individuals over time. Sequential research design consist elements of both cross sectional and longitudinal research designs. Sequential research also features participants who are followed over time. Both of these designs are not vulnerable to cohort effect, longitudinal as well as sequential designs are utilized for controlling cohort effects. Similarly, both designs are not vulnerable to the effects of attrition.
