Question :

Write an Article Critique about existence of racism in Oakville

Answer :

The article selected for the critique was written by Ethan Carley, and published in The Star on July 11, 2020. The author has tried to assert the existence of racism in Oakville, against what the mainstream understanding of this issue is at present. The author has successfully presented his point of view backed by several examples. It can be said that racism exist in Oakville, but it seems that a concerted effort has been made for years to paint a brighter picture. Children were consciously not taught actual history and everyone in the community decided to ignore the past to believe that the wealth among whites are not related to institutionalized racism. As author says, there is a need to carefully define what to be remembered and what to forget (Carley, 2020). Though the author has presented his point of view appropriately, but backing it with more vivid examples would have made the article an interesting read.
