Thesis Interconnections Between the Esg Performance and Financial Results
Question:-
Investigating and verifying the causal relationship and complex interconnections between the ESG performance and financial results
Answer:-
The level of English language is acceptable and an average reader and can understand what is being said. If the abstract would not been there, then it would be quite difficult to get the idea regarding the direction of the approach. Furthermore, it can also be said that the researcher has also used filler words and phrases at some places instead of presenting the content. As for example, the second sentence of the Research Approach section, the researcher talks about “preserving a holistic approach” and then “relevant stakeholder needs and objectives”. Lack of any citation and sudden introduction of these two aspects initially in the section, without prior backgrounds, may put reader off guard. Also, through the Research Approach section, the researcher has primarily presented the content from the perspective of single research study by Peffers et al (2014). But, there are no counter arguments on whether the approach is good enough to be used in the study. The researcher has not tried to review the pros and cons of the research approach, which shades doubt over the effort made by the researcher in selecting the approach. The inclusion of more references could have made the content more justifiable and believable, which it certainly lacks. However, overall there are some clarity in reporting as a reader can understand the intention of the researcher after reading the chapter in its entirety. Also, the chronology adopted to present the sub-questions does not seem appropriate. The researcher has chosen to present sub-questions before the research question. And the research question does not provide enough clarity regarding the regarding the research intention of the researcher. It needs more refining. Above all, the researcher has used in-text citation in the Abstract, which seems against the norm. Rarely any research paper exist that include citation in the Abstract. The purpose of an Abstract is somewhat like a summary of the study and thus reference is not required.
The researcher has excellently talked to the point instead of beating around the bush. There is clarity in explanation and the researcher has articulated his/her understanding appreciably. Further, when presenting the research approach, the researcher has pooled in content from various resources instead of depending on one, which increases the believability. The researcher not only presented the approach that will be used in the study, he/she also presented the pros and cons of the approach, which aids in justification. The researcher has provided argument on why the selected approach is appropriate and the demerits it comes with. This openness ensures that the reader will read the upcoming results with the cons in perspective. The key positive aspect of this chapter is that the researcher has used diagrams to present the content, which adds to the articulation. Diagrams have helped in understanding the various relationship between different components that the researcher has tried to explain. A good number of references have been used in the study as well, which increases the authenticity of the study. Citations have been given where the credit seemed due. Now, coming to the sub-questions, the researcher has first presented the research questions and then moved on to the sub-questions. And by reading the research questions and sub-questions, it seems that SQs are coming of RQs and not from anywhere else. Sub-questions clearly breaks down the main question and it seems that if the research is done to achieve the answers to the sub-questions, then it will automatically lead to the answering of the main question.
