Abstract
The current study is about unethical practices in the Middle East. Although the regions are far behind to deal with unethical issues that affect their business still, some practices should be assessed properly. However, the organizations are responsible for making sure that they are following the ethical behavior when they need to relate the practice to the duties they performed at their premises. The more concerning issue is that the business is highly associated with the research, and it should be in such a systematic way that it could provide direct and fair decisions that are heavily related to the managerial team regarding the work. Therefore the ethical collide in the Middle East always remains the major concern in the business practices and which will affect the development. Also, there are many different types of stereotypes related to the ethical concern among which the top one is corruption and the culture of agents hiring along with the favor given by the facilitation payments.
Moreover, in any case, the organizations related to the coordination's work are feeling the squeeze. It is normal that, on the one hand, it is required to have consistency with the counter pay off enactment, however, on the opposite side, they had expected to make the assistance installments on which they are censured when the merchandise moves all the more gradually due to non-installment. This is likewise a deceptive practice that is ordinarily won in the Center East. Be that as it may, the enormous associations are likewise getting benefits and are on a worthwhile position when they don't make such installments. In addition to this, the workforce and the training culture is also the major concern in which the organizations are doing unethically. Sometimes it happens that the CEO or the upper authority is more concerned about the ethical attitude, but the middle level is not doing well.
Introduction
Unethical business practices in the organizations are drastically increasing due to having the pressure to get success and to compete for the other organizations, which made them ignore the moral and ethical aspects regarding the practices along with decision making. To gain more profits and to maximize the shareholder's value. Also, the ethics and the associated behavior have the highest significance for many reasons in business organizations. Companies must ensure that they follow all the levels of ethical behavior when any of the related activities will be performed at their premises. More specifically, the activities that are highly associated with business research, which is a systematic inquisition that could provide direct decisions related to managerial and to provide the information. The purpose is to get access to the companies for their valuable information related to customer services, policies, and consumer buying habits (Fryer 2016).
However, the business owners can able to use the information to discover the products and the services that are significant for the public, worker's behavior, and morale as well. Therefore, the study is to scrutinize and investigate the unethical practices in the businesses in the context of the moral code of conduct and to recommend more ethical practices. Also, there is a senior group that figured the multinational organizations that had joined the good corporations for the sake of ethics debate. This debate rarely comes up with the Middle East off the front pages and raised the question that "Can businesses operate ethically in the Middle East?." With the region, the current bottom line among the bottom ten worldwide for corruption. Also, the latest transparency corrupt international practices index indicates that it is a problematic part of the world in which they are operating. Also, many of the associated challenges has been examined that the business faces in the Middle East and provides possible remedies (Izraeli 1997). These will directly affect the development of the Middle East.
Development
However, in this globalized world, there is ethical collide in the context of unethical business practices in the Middle East by assessing the critical review in the methods of business research. In this regard to managing the conflict across the globalization, that could lead to some of the legal and ethical issues. Therefore many different countries follow the different business practices and make the system legal at the time but not the work. However, to depend on who is running the organization and to assess someone making the bad deals. However, the conflict the experience that fell into different categories like race, competition, decision making, and gender that is heavily based on identity and belief. More specifically, the conflict identities could lead to incompetent leaders and weakening company's which devalues the history and the moral as well (Mullin Marta 2014).
Furthermore, various stereotypes discuss business in the Middle East. The Middle East is the region where the ethics of business are underdeveloped, and the norms are to have some of the business practices that are heavily based on cultural beliefs as well. However, the ethical practices in the businesses are merely nonexistence, and when the companies have been asked about it, they only chuckle or not commenting on it. Without this, the companies think about the behavior, and one might think that they do not take the business seriously, and it might be something illegal and harm development.
According to the U.S Agency for International Development (USAID), there is much work that has been designed to strengthen the infrastructure and to stabilize the economies along with agricultural growth. There are more opportunities related to the partnership, but the Middle East can be in trouble due to not practicing the legal practices that have been institutionalized. This can be exemplified by Remedia Inc., which is involved in the worst consumer safety scandal when many babies had died due to the infant formula that is sold without vitamin B1. This is unethical and should not be tolerated. The reason is that the businesses that are corrupt and need to be researched more, while more of the businesses rely on illegal scandals and unethical activities (Schwartz 2012).
Corruption
The traditional methods of doing business in the Middle East would be the major cause of legislative issues. There is a need for businesses to become aware of the types of payments that are to facilitate the business and to ensure the procedures and policies in the place that could ensure compliance with the international anti-corruption legislation. In this regard, three risks have been identified (Varner, 2013).
Intermediaries and Agents:
Agents are working on behalf of the organization, and it is widespread with the associated agents who selected the following chance and to meet with the little or with no screening, but the practice is changing now. The reason is that many of the organizations are cutting back the agents because the cases have been substantiated from 100s to 10s. While the companies use the services of agents, who are legally obliged to have their services. However, the agents have used a thorough check and balance and ensure the organization to whom they are dealing with. But the issue is that there are also a lack of audits and the part of an agreement with the anti-corruption clauses, which should be included in the contract. Moreover, the agents are not following the anti-corruption policy, which indicates the zero tolerance of the bribery approach. Moreover, the nature of payment structure and the simplified methods have to offer the fee of the flat or the salaries that are opposed to the commission percentage and are incentivized as the malpractice (Tel 2016).
Hospitality and Gifts
It was offered and also expected that if the excessive, it could place the companies in a vulnerable position. However, the policy of hospitality that the businesses had taken to ensure that the system has taken it the diplomacy as they provide the gifts to get favorable information by exchanging gifts and hospitality. Moreover, to offense the auction, which is at a high place and to the item by donating the charity and the choice of the giver that could be considered as the possible route to change the information. Also, the gifts can be displayed in a prominent position. On the premises of a business, these could be accepted to consider as the alternative way that could help return something and could cause the offense. When the branded items and as a result, it will demand a high level of breach of business research like to exchange valuable information (Flagen 2014).
Facilitation Payments
Although the facilitation method of payment is considered legal under the UK law only but still, it is permitted under the FCPA and in the associated in the Middle East, which they have decided and demanded. However, the low wages in many of the regions could become the problem, and the people are poorly paid, while the officials of the government demand more payments that could subsidize the income. However, the terminology has been criticized for the sake of sanitizing what is considered a bribe.
However, the companies associated with the logistics work are under pressure, and it is expected that on the one hand, it is expected to have compliance with the anti-bribery legislation, but on the other side, they had expected to make the facilitation payments on which they are criticized when the goods move more slowly due to non-payment. This is also an unethical practice that is commonly prevailed in the Middle East. However, large organizations also get benefits and are in an advantageous position when they refuse to make such payments. The reason behind it is that they have all the financial benefits and resources so that they can wait or could stay on the right side of the law. But it is unethical for the smaller organization that they get pressure and are far more acute and could recognize that could feel the commercial advantage.so it the major unethical issue (Ethicsphere 2019).
Workforce Treatment
The business that is working in this region needs to have more of the labor practice to be done fairly and with great care. However, the conditions of the workforce have fallen short and are expected to the standard in the region as it has been seen in the region. In addition to this, racism is another unethical. It is a significant issue in the business practices, which are typically associated with the migrants, and the treatment of women in the business operations is another major issue to operate business ethically in the Middle East. It may vary from country to country and is a significant factor in the development of any country. Like in Saudi Arabia, women always remain at a disadvantageous position in the business sector.
But on the contrary to this, there are many fields where the role of women has been seen in government jobs and in running the businesses. While in the Middle East, many cases are more restrictions on women in the past. This could be checked on the part of ethical compliance that could check the organization and have urged to reflect that how the local partners in the trade and the local representatives respect and regard the women (Corder 2019).
In addition to this, the organizations should make sure that they have examined the workers which right and great care, more specifically, they could ensure that the migrants' workers are not being prevented from leaving the workplace or the country. While on the grounds of discrimination, religion and age can also be the cause of unethical practice, and there are clear guidelines that should be in the right place so that the organizations could mitigate the issue.
Training and Culture
The Middle East is suffering from other ethical business practices by viewing and imposing western culture and training. Although there is a need to take great care to do the right things. So compliance and the issue of ethics are needed to be raised as a regular regarding safety and health concern as well. The region is also practicing unethical practice. It is often observed that the right messages come from senior management, and it is necessary to embed the right and ethical culture.
Moreover, authority, accountability, and responsibilities have been seen as the crucial unethical practice as the company's commitment to the values related to ethical values had emanated from the top. It is the issue that the CEO wishes to work ethically but reinforce the authority to implement the effective policy, but the juniors did this according to their needs (Survey 2013 ).
Conclusion
Hence it is concluded that businesses always need the diverse but the understanding challenges in the business practices in the Middle East. There is a vast majority of the organizations that are in debate of the system that could relate to the unethical practices, and they highly prevail in the region. However, the key commitment from the top is the ability that could embed the ethical culture in the organizations. While the sanctions and the systems are in favor and are providing fair and ethical values, but the firms are still engaged in the culture of unethical concerns. From the above all detailed analysis, it is revealed that the third parties and the partner organizations are more practicing the unethical concerns. While the issue of careful monitoring and the internal, as well as external audits, are also absent that could check and balance the unethical practices.
Also, corruption is the major cause in this regard. Moreover, the procedures and the policies do not only stop the unethical concerns, but there is a need to have a consistent approach to the transgression.
